about us

AT-REG applies the model of success for AT regulation achieved in the USA. Regulation began in the USA in 1971 with Texas as the first state conferring statutory-regulation for AT. See the chart of state-by-state success as regulation spread. This was the key to growing the profession and expanding the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). Plus the incorporation of the NATA regulation committee as the BOC and the incorporation of the accreditation committee into the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) paved the way to international standards and credentialing.

The value of the ATC® certification mark lies in its foundational proof of competency for entry-to-practice and in how it supports each State AT organization's pursuit of statutory regulation and licensure. The Canadian entry-to-practice certification is provided by the national AT professional association as the CAT(C). Unlike the regulation of the profession across the USA, no province regulates Athletic Therapy in Canada. Ontario's AT professional body is pursuing statutory regulation. To meet the RHPA regulatory review requirements, it completed a copyrighted Practice Analysis defining skills and essential competencies and created a competency exam aligned with regulatory standards, with rigorous psychometric support and third-party consideration from the BOC's consultants. It too has been copyrighted. The Ontario AT Association has a verifiable digital practice licence credential REG.AT-ON, to ISO standards, identifying the regulation-ready roster of practitioners.
